Hayton on Homicide

The Company

Moulin Exes Theatre CompanyMoulin Exes was formed by Michelle Golder in April 2008. Michelle had decided to branch out from her activities producing new writing as chair of the WRiTEON Playwriting Forum and produce some of her own works. She had done so first in 2007, when in partnership with co-writer Paul Richards, and under the banner of his production company, Get a Real Job, she brought the show Absurdities/Bed to the Brighton Fringe Festival. This show, directed by Holly Race, was very well reviewed. It received a four star review in Three Weeks and The Argus described it as "funny, witty...engaging and thought provoking" (7 May 2007).

At the same time Michelle was involved in co-writing and directing a ten-part radio soap for Cambridge Community Radio station 209Radio. Hills Road, the Soap: Putting the Ambridge Back in Cambridge became a popular show for the station, and was revived in September 2008 when Michelle wrote a short play based on the show's characters for a 209Radio Fundraiser.

This production was followed in July 2007 with Sexual Ironing, a collection of seven comic sketches about men, women and sex all written by Michelle and produced for the second Camden Fringe Festival. This production had a fantastic sell-out premiere at the ADC Theatre, Cambridge and went on to good audiences in Camden.

Michelle's first production under the Moulin Exes name was Beat Club, a comedy sketch show with sketches by Graeme Knowles, Julia Bolden, Karen McWhinnie and Michelle. This premiered at Bar B, Cambridge in May 2008 and quickly sold out. There are plans to make Beat Club a regular event in Cambridge .

Immediately prior to Hayton on Homicide, the Moulin Exes company produced an adaptation of the MR James ghost story, Casting the Runes, for a commissioned performance at King's College, Cambridge. The success of this adaption led directly to the writing of Hayton, which combines storytelling elements of James with Michelle's trademark character based comedy.
